I have a Windows 98 network printer. It is a local printer that is
shared, and it is shared with everybody. I have a Windows 2000 Server
acting as a print server. I have the printer on the Win98 machine
installed on the Windows 2000 Server machine with the local port
\\machine\printer_share. I am using, as said, the WIn2k machine as a
print server. When a job comes in to go to the Win98 printer, via the
Win2k print server, I get the error:
Event ID: 13
Document 3, Local Downlevel Document owned by SYSTEM was deleted on
computer_sharing_the_printer
Where "3" changes to a different number when it is a different
document and the computer_sharing_the_printer is just that.
I have looked at all the net use for local ports, I have set security
everywhere and for everyone full control, scoured Google Groups and
the rest of the world to no avail. Any help is appreciated.
I can even see the document go into the queue on Win2k and then
disappear. I think this merely means the document did what it is
supposed to do and then, of course, win2k deletes the file it received
to send to the shared printer. But the problem is the job never
prints. In other words, the event is normal, but I still don't get a
document printed. It is logged (I know I can turn it off) and my only
key. Thanks again.
