Help! I use MS 2000 Professional and Outlook 2000. I am on
a small network and I accidnetally deleted a user
name/account (my own). Fortunately I was able to log on
as administrator but now my user settings are lost
including my outlook inbox, calendar, contacts, etc. How
can I resore this user account. I tried setting up a new
user with the same name but that didn't work.
Thanks,
Marcie

Hello
I don't think you can. When you create a user, they are assigned
a unique long id, which are never assigned when you recreate any user.

One thing you can do is create a user, and copy all the files of the
previous user you deleted in that new user's folder. This requires that
previous user's directory is intact. The directory is located in

x:\Documents and settings\<user name>

Just see, if you have the directory of the old user.

Hope it helps

You can't. Well, not that simply anyway. Many of these settings are
kept in the profile, or in the user copy of the registry, the user.dat
file. You *may* get some of them back by copying the old profile over
if you have it, but you'll also need to set the correct permissions on
the profile files/folders as well.

Thank you. Your suggestion might work. I was able to
restore my internet favorites. Do you happen to know the
directory that my contacts (address book),and e-mails are
in?

Hello

If you use outlook express, your emails are stored in
x:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\<id>\Microsoft\Outlook Express

and your Address Book in
D:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Note that you cant simply copy these files as with favourites, you need to
use
import feature of outlook express to import the messages. Same with the
Address Book.
