Good day techies...
Our office had serious power outages causing a corruption of my .pst file.
At the same time as restoring the backup I decided to upgrade from the
97-2002 format to 2003 by exporting and importing to a newly created .pst
file. Despite what I thought was a decent knowledge of outlook, at some point
during the process I seem to have messed up.
I now have 2 x personal folders in the folder list. One is the one I want,
created to receive mail, calendars, tasks, synch with Pocket PC etc etc -
this has all my data in it. This one is set as default mail location – it
seems to work fine, no problems. But, there is another one…The other one is
an old file which I cannot close, nor can I view it's location in the
advanced settings. I just get an error saying 'an object could not be found'
and the unwanted personal folders file stubbornly remains in the file list.
It has data in it. I think what I originally did wrong was deleting a .pst
file thru file manager before closing it inside Outlook.
After trying everything, I re-installed Outlook. But, it re-appeared in
exactly the same format as I de-installed it. So, I uninstalled entire Office
2003, deleted everything I could find to do with it (except registry items)
and re-installed it. I was stunned to find that office had re-installed
itself with all my settings/customisations that it had had before I removed
it! And of course Outlook remained with the same undeletable personal folder
file. How do I get rid of this file from the folder list? Or reinstall
Outlook so that it starts from a fresh installation, without regard to what
happened before?
Thanks anyone - I need this sorted soon, because I dare not synch with my
pocket PC until this is sorted – heaven knows what Active Synch will make of
the confusion!
