what rule to be created in outlook 2k to delete mails at server itself
without downloading the same.... i want this rule for the purpose of
deleting mails above a particular size without downloading them in to my
inbox...and thus avoid wasting valuable bandwidth.

regards

No rule, just a send and receive setting. Go to Tools->
Options-> tab Mail Setup-> button Send/Receive...->
button Edit... Here you can select the account and
configure what the maximum size of a message can be will
it be downloaded.

Hope this helps!

hi, thanks for your reply.
i still have a query......
But will this setting result in deleting the mails from the server or will
they still remain on the server.. .... If outlook deletes the mails then
fine no problem .... but In the event the messages still remaining on the
server, then email box space is blocked ... in that case , how can i delete
them without going to the website using outlook

thanks N regards

Different answer - as you are using Outlook 2000, you can change your mail
configuration to CWO mode. This allows you to download headers only using
Remote Mail. You can then either mark to download the message, or mark for
deletion. When you next Connect using the Remote Mail toolbar, those actions
will be performed.
Easier than using Rules, I found.

Gordon has a good solution in case you want to have those messages deleted.
If you really don't care about those messages and don't even want to see
them; go to you webbased mailclient provided by your provider. Most
providers will allow you to set rules here. Configure a rule to delete it
and you'll need no user interaction anymore to get the messages deleted.

And indeed; use a newsreader like Outlook Express makes newsreading a lot
eassier :-)

In Outlook 2000, if you go to Tools-Options-Mail Format, at the bottom,
there is a button that says "Reconfigure Mail Support". If you click it, the
setup options will appear. If you choose CWO Mode (the obvious choice!) you
can then go into Tools (I think - I'm using Outlook 2002 now)-Remote Mail
and download headers only.
