Is there a setting where I can tell Vista mail not to delete mail from the
server after downloading it? Can I set a time frame for it to do so?

Thanks, Bob

Assuming that you are using Vista's WINDOWS MAIL...

TOOLS menu|ACCOUNTS

Select the POP 3 account, then click the PROPERTIES button.

Click the ADVANCED tab.

The choices are there. HELP has further information.

Yes.
Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Advanced
[x] Leave a copy of messages on server
[x] Remove from server after [ ] days

Thanks. Is there any disadvantage to setting it for a longer time? (I'd
like them to still be there when I log on with my laptop).

They take up space. Your mail provider gives you a certain amount of space.
If that fills up you can no longer receive mail.

Hi, Bob.

Yes. The exact click sequence varies slightly, but in WLM, I click: Tools
| Accounts, then select the Account (if there are more than one), then
Properties | Advanced. Under Delivery, I check the box to Leave a copy of
messages on server, and then check Remove from server after ___ days, and
fill in the number of days (currently set to 14 days).

This is especially useful during transition periods, like now, moving from
WM to the WLM beta. WLM will not delete downloaded messages for 14 days.
So long as I run WM at least every couple of weeks and download all my mail
into the WM Message Store each time, my database there will be complete -
just in case anything goes wrong with the beta. When I'm confident that I
won't be running WM again, and that all the messages from that store are in
the WLM store, then I can delete the WM store when I delete that mail
client. And I'll probably shorten the removal time in WLM to about 5 days;
it's good to have at least a few days' buffer, just in case.
