Delete key doesn't work in Outlook Express

I used some other program yesterday to get rid of over 1000 messages from 2009.
Now when I hit the delete key nothing happens. I have XP, IE 8.0, and OE 6.0. I
tried reinstalling IE 8.- but nothing changed. Also my spell checker (Tiny
Spell) quit working a while ago and I need it because I am a bad speller.

IE8 and OE6 - related by software vendor. ;-)

Compacted your OE database?
