Hi,

I added a PC to my network composed of 3 XP machines. When I did this I
started getting an icon in my Network Connections window called Internet
Gateway. This has screwed up my network connections on all of my PCs to my
broadband connection so that I can't access the outside world. When I try
to delete it it tells me I can't. How do I get rid of this and return the
norm of just having local area connection icons in this window? When this
happened I ended up with this gateway icon on all my machines.

thanks!

The Internet Gateway icon represents the Internet connection on your
network -- it's either a broadband router or an Internet Connection
Sharing host computer. Clicking the Internet Gateway icon lets you
monitor and control the Internet connection.

I don't think that the Internet Gateway icon itself can cause
connection problems, but here's how to remove it:

1. If you have an Internet Connection Sharing host, un-check the box
in the shared network connection's Properties | Advanced that says
"Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet
connection".

2. If you have a broadband router, connect to its web server interface
and disable the Internet Gateway. It might also be called "UPnP" or
"Universal Plug and Play". See the router documentation for details.
