How can I completely, finally delete Internet Explorer
from my Computer? They're pestering me to death with
their intrusive pop-ups. Some cover the whole screen and
have to shut down my PC to get rid of them. So annoying
and rude I can't stand it anymore!!!It came with my PC so
why is it in there anyway?

Hi

You can't delete IE from Windows XP. Have a look at the following programs
to see if your system has any spyware on it:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Because Microsoft is a greedy monopolist who pushes its software like a
crack dealer.

What I do is disable all activex/java scripting in IE, delete it's
shortcuts and make Mozilla Firefox my default browser. I don't get any IE
popups. Ever. I don't get any Firefox popups either because Firefox has
superb popup-blocking built in.

That posting helps who...????

I ave IE6 and get no pop ups. I believe your problem to be no popup stopping
software installed on your system. there are free stoppers if you search
google or similar engine.

Hi Sheila,

If you are getting pop-ups while not using Internet Explorer they are
probably coming from the "Messenger" service.
The Messenger service isn't the same as Windows Messenger (the little green
guy) and you can shut it off without effecting Windows Messenger (or
anything else really - it is off by default in SP2).

To disable the Messenger service do the following:

Click "Start", then "Run"
Type in "services.msc" and hit Enter
Locate "Messenger" in the list and double click it (or right click and
select "properties")
Click "Stop" and wait for the status to change to "Stopped"
Change the "Startup Type" to "Disabled"
Click OK and close the Services window

Please note:
You don't want to alter any of the other services unless you are sure of
what they do and what programs rely on them.

As a side note SP2 has a built in pop-up blocker that will give you the
option to block the pop-ups that you see while using Internet Explorer.

Hope that helps,

Hi again,

If you have something covering your screen you can press Ctrl+F4 to kill
whatever program/window currently has "focus".

Also pressing WindowsKey+D will minimize all your windows and display the
desktop and taskbar. From there you can right click the offending window and
select "close".

Isn't that Alt+F4?
