How would one go about unistalling Internet Explorer and then
re-installing it?

I was advised by Verizon to do this so that it wouldn't open with
"MS INTERNET EXPLORER CUSTOMIZED FOR VERIZON ON LINE."

This is not necessary. You can remove the branding that Verizon placed in the browser with a simple, automated fix. Go to the following website and look in the section called "Remove the branding". Click the file link called
ISPUnbrand.zip to download the zip file. Unzip the file and double click the extracted "Unbrand.exe" file.

Place a checkmark in the "Clear window title for all identities" option. Click the Clear button. Click the "Remove Internet Explorer Branding" button and click the Clear button again.

This will remove all of the Verizon branding.

Remove the ISP branding for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express:
