Delete Files

Lavert

Have a lot of folders under C:\Windows that read $NtUninstall whatever. Can
they be deleted without doing any harm? Thanks in advance.
 
Hi Lavert,

Those are the files that are required to uninstall the particular Service
Pack or Hotfix that is referenced, by MSKB article number, in the filename.
If you are confident that the update was successful and that you won't be
wanting to uninstall it, then yes, you can safely delete the file.

If you also would like to remove the lines, in Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel, that relate to each of the updates for which you have deleted
the $NTUninstall file, select the reference to the item and then click on
the Remove button. XP will attempt to locate the uninstall file and, when
the file cannot be found, it will return an "error" message and ask you if
you wish to remove the entry from Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks for your reply. It has been a week since I installed updates. I
think I can assume I won't need to uninstall any of them. Anyway, have done
what you suggested and everything is fine. Thanks again.
