You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following and see
if it helps:
IE Fix
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm
Restore All Tabs under Internet Options
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/iegentabs.reg
Restore All Display Tabs
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/restorealldisplaytabs.reg
Hope this helps.

I am cros-posting your message to the microsoft.public.windowsme.general
newsgroup to see if the folks there can add some assistance to your problem.
Hmm...had not heard of this one. I'll make note of it for future reference.<title>KB194177 - Description of the Internet Explorer Repair tool</title>
Unfortunately it hasn't been updated to include IE6 but there could be
analogous tips written for IE6 in there. For example, this is the most
general procedure available for all OS mentioned there: Run...
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
BTW here is another article which ties the OS to the same procedure.
Ignore the title and watch out for all the typos... <eg>
<title>KB315297 - "Installation Failure. Unknown Error (-2147024770)"
Error Message When You Try to Use Windows Update</title>
(TechNet search for
setupwbv kbwinme*
)
Good idea, Jan. I'm not familiar with this OS either.
Just using TechNet... <w>
