Can I delete the contents of the C:\Documents and
Dettings\_user_\Local Settings\Temp directory. I did a
properties of this directory, and it's 3.06GB! There are
subdirectories that are cyptic (e.g. _ISTMP1.DIR or
{0f8d3cdf-a98...}, and there are others that sort of make
sense like Excel8.0.

But the directory name implies they are only "temp"
directories and files, so can I remove them all to clean
up my disk?

If not, how can I clean this directory structure up?

Thanks in advance!

No, not really. I did follow the directions on that
page. Before in this temp directory: 3,970,095,458
bytes, 1587 files, and 438 folders (I was wrong on the
3.06GB below, it was worse); after: 3,902,965,326 bytes,
1396 files, and 428 folders.

So my question still remains, is it safe to delete the
rest?

yes it's safe to delete but some files may not delete
telling you that some are in use just restart then delete
thoeeses files.

I think if you check this out on other links, you will
find they are temp directory used by your programs and
are OK to clean out.Did you try disk cleanup in your hard
drive properties? There are also reg cleaner programs out
there that will do this also....Good luck.

FWIW, I went ahead and deleted everything. So far
(about 8 hours, a couple of reboots, and Norton One
Button Checkup) have all worked fine.

I've deleted the temp file on three PCs here at the
house, all XP, and they each seem to be okay.
