Delayed logon

I'm hoping you might be able to shed some light on an
issue I've run across and am unable to move forward with
upgrading exchange because of it.

Problem: Delayed logon issue with computers from the
phoenix domain. It literally takes 5-6 minutes for
various computers to logon. No associated problems with
logon appear in the event viewer.

Here's what I've done thus far and am not getting any
closer to finding a solution.

1) Created user accounts in California domain (abc.com)
for PHX users (xyz.com)
2) Added a Domain Controller in Phoenix for the abc.com
domain - verified replication is in fact working between
DC in PHX and DC's in Calif.
3) Added forward lookup zone in both domains for each
domain. Verified lookups work.
4) On workstation - moved it to the abc.com domain.
5) Log on with valid twns.com user account - depending on
the PC it takes 10 seconds or 5-6 minutes. Verified the
dns and gateway entries are the same on each PC I tested
this on.

I can logon with the same profile on one PC and it takes 5
minutes then with the same profile logon to a different PC
and it takes 10 seconds. It appears to me the tcp/ip
stack is configure the same on both PC's.

Any input you might have regarding this issue would be
greatly appreciated.

Long logon delays (slow logon): Probably caused by missing or incorrect DNS
settings.

Slow logon to domain in Windows XP Pro:
This is caused by the asynchronous loading of networking during the boot
up process. This speeds up the login process in a stand-alone workstation by
allowing the user to log in with cached logon credentials before the
network is fully ready. To disable this "feature" and restore your
domain logons to their normal speed, run gpedit.msc

- Computer Configuration
- Administrative Templates
- System
- Logon
- change "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to
ENABLED.

Slow initial network connection:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current
Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
Delete {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}.

I recommend you look at the DNS issue first.
 
Make sure you have a DNS server on your network. XP absolutely depends on
DNS. Then make sure your box has the server's IP as the primary DNS server.
