delay when typing in "search" field on websites?

When I am on most websites and type entries in
the "search" fields there is a long delay between the time
I am typing and the time it takes to display what I typed.
i've tried to use the Micorsoft self help search but I
cannot find an answer. This does not happen in programs
such as word or excel only on the web. Can you suggest a
solution?
