I changed from 56k modem to DSL some days before.
Now I have problems with my NIS, especially the Norton Anti Virus.
It tells me that nmains causes failures, cce-mail proxy cannot be started,
the abonnement is not installed, n-detect is going to be closed. Everything
is going wrong, but all other programs on win98SE are working.
I tried to destall NAV but it does not work. There was an info that NIS
cannot find one of its necessary products that must be installed. (failure
1713) I made a new installation (without having destalled), made the
live-updates. At the beginning it worked, now I have the same problems as
well.
Who can help or is there any hint of where those problems are discussed.
Sorry for my terrible English.

Hi,
Norton once uninstalled leaves very many entries in the registry
which block further reinstallation. Should you wish to completely
clear Norton/Symantec from your PC take a look at jv16 Power Tools,
available from www.macecraft.com
Comes with a 30 day free trial. It has the ability to locate every
registry entry searched for by product name. Can be a bit more
confusing if you have other Norton products which you do not wish to
remove but can be done. A serious word of warning, unless you are
happy dealing with the registry it is best left alone or find a friend
who is happy with it and if you do use it do make a backup copy of the
registry before removing anything.

Your machine is possibly infected with some type of worm which NAV has
missed. A lot of worms disable the anti virus. Try an online scan from
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Thanks for the advice. I checked my computer by trendmicro. They did not
find any virus.
Besides I destalled NIS by a Regcleaner 4.3 and then installed it again. I
seems to run, but the one message arrives sometimes: nmain causes a failure.
And nmain is part of NIS. The other problems do not occur at the very
moment.
