Why doesn't MS get rid of newsgroups like
"microsoft.public.access.3rdpartyusrgrp"? It serves no purpose. Same with
the "microsoft.public.office.access.forms" and
"microsoft.public.office.access.formscoding" ones. They're redundant and
very few people use them. I'm not complaining, I'm just curious. Seems like
a simple and sensible idea to just remove them from the system so people
don't post there where they're unlikely to ever get answers.

The problem is that USENET newsgroups are worse than vampires. Microsoft could
(and maybe has, I don't know!) remove these groups from msnews.microsoft.com,
but they've propagated to every other news server on the Internet; because of
many cases of sabotage and abuse over the years, news servers rarely or never
honor newsgroup deletion requests.

So if a group is deleted from one server it will still exist on hundreds of
other servers... and even propagate back to the server from which it was
cancelled.

I think microsoft.public.office.access.forms is defunct. Microsoft asked the
MVPs not to monitor it a few years ago. I always have anyway because people
do on occasion ask a question there. I haven't seen a new question there in
several months now, so maybe they are killing the posts or moving them.

As Far as microsoft.public.access.3rdpartyusrgrp goes, it still gets some
posts, and I answered yours there a little while ago. That was before I
noticed that you reposted somewhere else.

We were never quite sure why MS created those in the first place so
yes i agree with you.

(Note that I missed the word office in between public and access and
was going to tell you that I do read those newsgroups and that there
was lots of activity. But then I realized your posting didn't make
any sense so I reread it.)

Yet, that newsgroup has *not* been removed from
msnews.microsoft.com. When I just looked at it, it had 40 posts
dating back to last November and as recent as today.

I didn't either. And it surprises me that that isn't where MS wants
the posts to be, since that's their preferred names for the apps
nowadays.
