I have two questions that I am curious about. In XP Hame defrag:
1. Why are some files unmovable?

2. What is compacting files?

Some files are unmovable because they are system files
that are always put back at the same place when Windows
uses them.
Compacting files is when files of a same program (a game
for example) are put on the same sector or next to each
other on the hard drive for faster access when they are
needed

Thanks for your info. one more question though- after defrag analysis shows
10% total frag - at what point is it necessary to defrag? thanks
again-Frank

Simply 'analyze' the partition in question. Windows lets you know if it's
time to defrag.
