Hi,

When I right click on the C: drive from the My Computer icon and then select
Properties -> Tools the defragmentation option is grayed out with a message
that "No Defragmentation Tools is installed".

However, I can access it via Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System
Tools. How do I set us the tool in the first scenario?

TIA.

This means that the built-in defragmenter is no longer registered as the
default defragmenter. This can sometimes happen if you have installed a 3rd
party defragmenter that registers itself as the default defragmenter and
then un-installed the 3rd party defragmenter and it doesn't restore the
built-in as the default defragmenter.

What does the following registry key say?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComp
uter\DefragPath

Hi Greg,

That entry does not exist in my registry. By the way, I did not install a
3rd part defrag program. This issue surfaced after I upgraded from Win98SE
to Win2k.

How do I correct this?
