Has anybody tried Diskeeper 8 , O&O 6 or PerfectDisk 6 ?
I am curious to hear how they compare in terms of speed and efficiency on XP
pro.

Diskeeper 8.0 works fine so I never tried the others. The main thing
is to keep your harddrives neat and clean otherwise it won't matter
which one you use. :-)

Ian,

Actually, it does matter - as not all defragmenters are created equal :)

For example - free space consolidation. This is quite important. Not all
defragmenters do an equivalent job of consolidating free space.

Another example is ability to defragment all types of files. O&O Defrag V6
doesn't defragment files with multiple data streams. They show the files as
"locked" and will not defragment - even though Microsoft's defrag APIs fully
support defragment them (and Diskeeper and PerfectDisk are able to
defragment them easily).

Tried Diskeeper 7, got PerfectDisk 6.0 I like it, seems to
do a great job easier to select how to maintain drive,
more options.

Hi Tony -

I'd recommend downloading and running the trial versions of each of
these defraggers, then purchasing the one that has the features you
want and seems to work best for your situation.

The differences between these products are mostly important to those
of us who develop defragmenters for a living. The best one for you
will be the one you like the best, regardless of what other people
tell you.

I hope this helps -
