When I defragg i noticed lately there are numerous fragmented files,is this

Fragmentation happens. For the most part - it does not affect performance
up to a certain level.

There would be no reason to defrag if there was no fragmentation. The
nature of writing data to the hard disk drive causes fragmentation. The
tool allows one to find the fragmentation and defrag it. ;-)

Your question leaves much to the 'guessing game'... The "fix", if there is
such a thing - is to defrag on occassion. I actually suggest getting
JKDefrag and installing the screensaver. ;-)

Defrag does not always 100% defrag the drive...
but it should get it into pretty good shape.

If you do not have much free space on your drive...that could be a reason
for only partial defragmentation

I have 2Gigs on my PC,but yesterday i stopped my antivirus, to see how this
may affect it,it seemed to help stop all those items listing on the lower
part of the defrag window.Thats what my concern was in asking here, why so
many items would appear on the lower part of the window.Ive never had this
happen before and was concerned about it.

What defragmenter did you use, and how much free disk space did you
have? The built-in XP defragger does not do a good job with high
fragmentation, large drives or low space. The disk analysis report will
give you the list of fragmented files that could not be defragmented,
and a rough idea of whether fragmentation persists due to system files
or low space.

If you don't want to concern yourself with defragging in the future,
get a good automatic defragmenter - all defrag operations will be done
in the background automatically. Even the MFT defrag is mostly 'online'
instead of boot-time. Since the defrag occurs in real-time using idle
system resources, you are not at it's mercy, unlike with the older ,
resource-intensive scheduled defragmenters. The PC can be used as usual
during the process.

I use the built in win defragger.Total files i have 45,902 fragmented files
734 excess files 1,715,Free space is 138GB page file 2.GB.What do you suggest
please here with this information sareth? my system seems bloated I think.

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

Seeing everything posted through now...

Empty your Temporary Internet Files folder...
Use CCleaner to clean up files too...
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
(Get the SLIM build.)

I also suggest:

How to use Disk Cleanup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312
(If you do not use System Restore often (at all) - I suggest using the above
link to delete all but the most recent restore point...)

Shrink the size of the Temporary Internet Files folder to a
size between 64MB and 128MB..

- Open ONE copy of Internet Explorer.
- Select TOOLS -> Internet Options.
- Under the General tab in the "Temporary Internet Files" section, do the
following:
- Click on "Delete Cookies" (click OK)
- Click on "Settings" and change the "Amount of disk space to use:" to
something between 64MB and 128MB.
- Click OK.
- Click on "Delete Files" and select to "Delete all offline contents"
(the checkbox) and click OK. (If you had a LOT, this could take 2-10
minutes or more.)
- Once it is done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, re-open Internet
Explorer.

Then - reboot and run your defragmentation again.

Nothing of concern here. Simply run a disk cleanup and empty your
browser cache. That should take care of the 'problem' :)

Your Report indicates no problems. The files fragmented are small and
should not be there the next time you run Disk Defragmenter. Just
remember to run Disk CleanUp before you run Disk Defragmenter each and
every time. .
