Hi All,
Am using a Packard Bell Club, Cyrix 300MHz, 64Mb RAM, 3.2GB HDD to share an Internet connection. It works well but is very slow with win98. Have tried the maintenance wizard and that gets stuck at 2% and tries over again to no avail. There is less than 2Mb of RAM available. Can anyone help please?
Regards

Defrag in "safe mode" ... ;)

No programs or any other rubbish will be loaded ... more ram free then. :thumb:

Thanks Muckshifter,
Cheers,

That worked fine.

or, download and use Diskeeper lite, it's free and much better than the Windows one!
They are basically one and the same ... though you do get prettier graphics with Diskeeper.

Having said that ... Diskeeper has continually evolved and is much faster than the original package still in use by XP

To make full use of Diskeeper ... you really need the Full package.

Also consider O&O Defrag. ;)

Hi,
After defrag in safe mode as suggested it working in normal mode. Took more than an hour but worked fine.
Thanks,

Oops!
This Cyrix 300MHz with win98 has slowed right down since defragging. Takes ages to boot with hour glass icon lying on its side like time is standing still. Pointer does not respond directly to the mouse. Its like playing chess wearing a blindfold. Worked quite well before defrag, sharing an Internet connection - it was fast enough for this - didn't need it to do any more.
Can anybody help please?
