Defrag Utilities?

Microsoft's defrag utility is sooo slow - and still leaves the free space & page
file on my C drive very fragmented. I've used Vopt for a number of years, but
its graphic indicates it leaves fragmented files scattered over C, as well as
leaving the free space in even more of a mess than The Microsoft utility. It
also leaves sundry chunks of free space scattered over other drives.

Suggestions as to a good one to use? Freeware/shareware would be nice, but
efficiency & reasonable speed are the principal criteria.

Personally i use Raxco Perfectdisk. Using the offline option will defrag
pagefile etc.

I second Raxco Perfectdisk if you have a need for a 3rd party defragger.
Personally I believe for normal use the built in defrag utility is all that
is needed.

Diskeeper Lite was discontinued about 4 years ago, so what you get is
an old version 7. I'd trust a known download site, like
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1207, rather than the
diskeeperlite.com which is abusing the trademarked product name. Note
the limitations mentioned for the Lite version at the MajorGeeks site.
If you are using NTFS, there isn't much, if any, perceived improvement
in disk throughput (see
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,104961,00.asp). Don't
bother defragging more than once per month or two as the CPU cycles
lost, power, and extra wear on the hard drive aren't worth it.

Thanks very much for the replies.

Just realised - I don't seem to have thanked all for your replies. Pardon my
bad maners, and thanks very much.
