defrag takes hours & hours

Why does my defreag take many many hours?

I have a 40 GB hdd.

It shows a befroe and after graphic and even the after shows files
fragmented. Why?
 
if you have a screensaver going stop it I also go to ctl
alt del and stop all programs that are running that I can
stop without restarting the computer. I found that my
screen saver restarting caused defag to restart.

Diskeeper is well worth the $$$ I have it set to defrag

when the screensaver is on, it defrags about every two
days and takes only 2 to 3 min.On a 80 gig drive
buy it you wont be sorry.
