I have two hard drives, an 80G which is divided into two
partitions, one 15G (C: drv) one the balance of the 80G
drive, the second drive is a 4.5G for utility use. Both
partitions on the 80G drive are NTFS, the small drive is
FAT 32.
The problem: For unknown reasons I cannot completely
defrag the C: drive. Using the Windows 2000 integrated
defrager it gets to about 30% then shuts down with a
message that says mmc.exe shut it down and is creating a
log file. I cannot find a log file that relates on any
drive. I have installed System Suit 5 which is software
program that comes with several tools included a proported
defrag that is better than Microsofts. When I run this
defragger, after about an hour it shuts down and says it
cannot finish the process because windows accessed the
drive and it could not complete the process.
I shut down McAfee in both defrag cases above.
How can I remove mmc.exe which appears to be the cause.
