I noticed my defrag not running and tried to manually begin, after it
analyzed c: drive an error message appeared that said " Defragmentation of
(C:) has been aborted due to inconsitancies that were detected in the file
system. Run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair these inconsistancies then
run defrag. again.

I did run Check Disk but when I ran defrag again I recieved the same
message. I tried to locate SCNDSK but couldn't find it, if needed where can I
download the program, or what are my options.

I assume your running the check disk from explorer->c:->properties->tools..
u might need to let it run checkdisk at boottime,
just set the fix erros, and itl say it cant lock the drive , you can chose
to run next boot.

you can run the checkkdisk from the comand promt, but i beleive scandisk
doesnt exist as it used to,
or is part of checkdisk. you can specify parameters to scan on boot etc.

however if you set this flag and it fails to fix it, then everytime you
reboot it will run checkdisk.
you can get thrid party sw to clear this flag.

its also worth running a low level disk checker.
usualy the manafacturer like seagate has a comprehensive one.

however ive found file system/disk problems tend to be rather troublesome
when they do show up these days.
and so often any erros are "unknown error xx".
and ive tried several tools wich although have fixed the drive so it can be
read 99%
it wont boot at all.

so if its an old drive its well worth getting a new drive and transfering
the files accros.
there are several utilities wich will do this and even attempt to fix broken
files as it copies them.
you can then reformat the old drive and use it as a 2nd or whatever.

I also have a second hdd wich I can boot from and then i can run disk tools
on the other drive with no problem of files being in use by the os.

ive just been looking for defrag tools, im trying jkdefrag atm, looks quite
simple,
but i gues il have to leave it to run overnight.

Run Disk CleanUp, then chkdsk and finally Disk Defragmenter.

Forget scandisk.

Hope this helps.

Open a run command and register these DLLs:
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 dfrgui.dll
regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll

= Open Windows Explorer and locate this path;
C:\Windows\inf =in the right Pane/Window select dfrg.inf and right click on
it and select install

=Open a run command and type in:
services.msc
Locate this service and make sure it is started Automatic:
DCOM Server Process Launcher
Reboot your Machine and see if you can Defrag, best if you start it in safe
Mode.

Note you mean the Scannow command from the run command is:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run.
