I tried to run Defrag and it is telling me it is not installed. Has anyone else run across this problem with XP Home? How do I install it?

Thanx!!!

What actions did you take to run it. It's installed on all XPs.

I just right clicked on the C drive and chose properties. Defrag shows under Tools I think. I tried to run it and received an error saying that it was not installed. This is a standard out-of-the-box Dell computer and I have done no reloads or formats.

You should have a XP install disk with your system, Dell provides those.
Put it in the CDROM, then click start/rin, then type (no quotes, and add the
space between c and /)

"sfc /scannow"

Click OK, and let it go, as this should replace any missing or corrupt
system files. try Defrag again and post back with any results you have.

Just getting ready to leave work. I'll try that as soon as I get home and post the results. Thanks!

Well Tom...not much to report here. It did not work. Said it was checking...cranked away for a while and closed. I still cannot run Defrag and cannot find it on the Applications CD, the OS CD or the Drivers and Utilities CD. I'm at a loss.

Well it sounds like it didn't install all the way, and I guess that is
possible. try doing a repair install; this will leave all your programs and
settings there, but you'll need to download all the updates again that you
got from Windows Updates before. Anyway, go here to find out how to do a
Repair installation of XP.
