Hi - i have 2 partitions, C and D. the Services console dfrg.msc says
C: is ok, D: needs defrag

However, when I run defrag.exe (no arguments except the drive letter) -
it defrags both - this appears to be the same as defrag.exe /f.

or am I missing something?

thanks!
/j

Try going to run, type:cmd In cmd type:Defrag C: then Defrag D:,you ought
to see each being defraged seperatly.

Yes I do - but they're defragged EVEN IF defrag /a says that NO DEFRAG
is needed.

that confuses me

Help and support is your friend.

Start | Run | Type: helpctr | OK |
Type: defrag in the Search box |
Click the green arrow.
-----

Start | Run | Type: cmd | OK |
Type:

defrag /?

Hit enter

Been there - still no answer to question

how do I set defrag.exe parameters so it analyses and does a defrag only
if needed
/j

Jeff,

Start | Run | Type: dfrg.msc | OK |
Click the Analyze button

Disk Defragmenter can also be found...

Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter

Analysis and defragmentation displays and reports

I can't schedule interactively, i'm trying to create a command-line
command to do how you suggest I click so I can SCHEDULE it

thanks
/j

I want to create a command line defrag.exe /<options> that, when put
into the task scheduler will do the following every day:

analyze
defrag IF NEEDED

unforunately

defrag c: does the defrag regardless of whether a defrag /a c: says
that it is needed.
and there are no other relevant options that i know of

seems odd you can't schedule it this way

but maybe I missed something

so i thought I'd ask

/j

Jeff,

I know of no way to schedule with the if needed parameter.
Either you schedule for defrag to run or you don't.
