I have a portable hard drive that was acting slow. So I ran defrag to try to
fix it. While it was defraging, I selected “Stop†because I had to leave.
Unfortunately, when I went to redefrag, it said for me to run chkdsk/f. So I
did and it said “File record XXX segment is unreadable†for 8 files and then
said “Deleting orphan file sequence 1948†and that 1948 is not writable..
When I try to defrag again, it says to run chkdsk/f again. When I try to
access some files or copy files it will not open. What should I do? The
files are all there, but I think it is defrag rearrangement that the computer
does not see it.

The HD is NTFS and my computer uses XP 2.

Thank you a lot!

Go to the website of your harddrive's manufacturer and get their diagnoistic
utility...
then run the complete test.
If the drive has any defects...you will need to backup all your data at
once...
then replace the drive
