Why does vista always claim the hard drives need to be defragged? Even after
I run the defrag utility it comes back with the same message "your file
system can be improved" "recommend defragmenting drive".. Doesn't matter
how many times I defrag I always get the same result... Can someone shed
some light on this subject?? Is vista actually defragging the drive?? Is
Microsoft going to do anything to make users happy about defrag??? I have no
clue as to the condition of my drives and it disgusts me that MS dosent think
users need to know this info..

Run defrag.exe from an elevated command prompt to see the extent of
fragmentation. Do a defrag /? to see all the options.

What is happening on your system is not normal. Sorry I don't have a
solution for you.

try a 3rd party defragger.
I like Auslogics Disk Defrag.
its free and runs on 32/64 xp and vista.

Right on! I was a beta tester for them and its FREE and its great.
We did have a small problem with Vista64 which lasted 2 days until it
was solved. I have NEVER run into a problem on ANY machine.
