I have the latest update with definition 5729, but when i
go to update it says it will install 5729 from 5725,
definition which is all ready showing on the help,it
downloads it every time i go to udate, is this a bug ? i
have unistalled microsoft Anti Spyware, then reinstalled
it but still get the same message when i go to upgrade

I had the same problem, running ver 613 (left out the .
etc). I have updated to ver 614 and it seems to be working
OK since the correct 5729 shows as being installed, but even
with 614, if I manually check for update it says updating
from 5725 to 5729... It could be that the update has the
error and it will be fixed with 5734???

If you know what you are doing :')
Follow this, all credits to user "Taxman":

- Download Winzip or 7-Zip
http://www.7-zip.org/

Download these 3 files, right click-save to disk.
Compressed files !

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcz
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcz
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcz

- Open the first downloaded file and extract it with your Zip tool .
Do the same for the other.

- Right click on MSAS icon and choose shutdown.

- Copy/paste your extracted files to Program files / Microsoft
Antispyware
and choose to overwrite existing definition files.

- Start MSAS again and make a "check for updates" if you have latest
defs.

- If you have time, perform a full system scan directly with all
options checked.

Jim - I'd recommend looking at the attributes of the definition files, and
comparing them to this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892519

My guess is that you are stuck at 5725, regardless of what the app is
saying. If so, you can either try Andre's fix, or just try deleting the
definition files (or renaming them)--and see if the program fixes this on
its own--it has done that for me in past builds when I saw a similar issue.

Thanks, the program reports the correct definition files
when you hover on the update on the summary page. It also
runs scheduled scans and updates properly.
I'll take a look at the 892519 article.

Hi Jim

Well, the program reports ver 5729 but for a lot of us this is a never
ending loop and MSAS tries to upgrade everytime "check for updates" is
performed.

If you check your definition files within Program files/Microsoft
Antispyware
your files probably are dated June 9 or June 16, ver 5725 or 5727.

Version 5729 is dated June 24.

Version 5729 can be directly downloaded and then copy/paste them and
overwrite existing files.

Right click-Save target as

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

And this bug is really ugly beacuse of this behavior.

Thanks, I'll see what happens on the 5734 update?

It would be very useful if you or someone else could wait for another update
cycle before trying to fix this manually. My experience with past "stuck"
definition issues was that they didn't go away--they stayed stuck through
multiple definition releases--but let's see.

I'm unclear exactly what the right test is for me to describe, to tell
whether your install is updating correctly or not. I would say that if you
have defs with an appropriate date, and that if you go to File, Check for
updates, no update occurs (when there isn't one!)--that you are probably
functioning correctly.

I will wait and report back on this thread. I have several
spyware programs on my computer, including Ad-Aware SE
Personal, SpyBot S&D and Spyware Blaster as well as a number
of sites I have added manually to the security restricted
sites and privacy (for cookies) so when I installed MS
anti-spyware it only detected a few problems (8 total in
several months) but I have been happy with it, particularly
since the fix for the alert window ( I have my taskbar on
the left.)

Current thinking is that the update problem is a server issue, and is being
resolved.

I don't know of any other significant issues for folks whose settings are US
English in the 614 build.

--

I have noticed that 614 is running auto-update and scheduled
scans. However the system shows (when the mouse is hovered
on the summary page) that no scheduled scans have been done
AND that the last scan was done. It was manually updated
from 5725 and now shows 5731, but I don't if that will
remain.

But the alert popups now do not scroll off the screen so
they can't be read, I still have a problem with those since
they stack on top of each other and then all disappear when
the first one is clicked or you try to drag one off the
other.

I'm not sure you are out of the woods yet. Your description of how the
dialogs work sounds like what everyone sees, to me. This will change in
beta2, I'm quite certain.

The appearances on the summary page sound like something still isn't right,
but I don't have a specific thing to suggest that I know will fix it at this
point.

Just passing it along, so the issue can be looked at for
beta 2.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems, and it is beta.

Jim, no reply necessary.
