Definition Updates should not be done through windows update

Defender should download definitions silently like antivirus systems.

Since Defender uses the update process we are promted to initiate the
Windows Update process every few days. This is tedious and not appropriate
for some users.

For example Defender installed on a child's computer. I have finally
uninstalled it on my sons system and on two of my three systems for this
reason. It was getting to be a headache. If it had operated unobtrusively I
would not have uninstalled it.
 
Windows Defender should be updating via AutoUpdate--automatically, and
near-silently, as you've suggested. Do you have Auto-update turned off for
some reason?
 
A agree!! At work, windows update has been disabled because we have to get
all our OS updates from IT when they are ready to roll them out.

The anti-spyware used to be able to get updates, but Defender can't because
I can't connect to Windows Update.

There should be an alternate update route for those who don't have access to
Windows Update due to network restrictions.
