I am having a huge problem with this update today. My computer was extremely
slow this morning so I decided to reboot, but when I did that., I had this
blue screen come saying "Updates are being installed (1 of 1)" and then "Do
not unplug or turn off your computer; it will turn off automatically."

So I waited and waited and waited and after a few hours I decided to not
listen and powered off the computer and re-started it.

Then I tried doing a manual Windows Update. And when it got to the point to
do that I picked the first option (I forget what it says now) anyway, the
bottom line is that it was showing 0 updates but the install button was
there, and when I clicked that it said that the update failed and upon
checking further it showed 5 lines with the red button with the yellow X on
them, but clicking on them did nothing, and when I clicked on the line it
brought me right back to the same update page, so it was going around and
around.

I even uninstalled Windows Defender and re-installed it and tried again,
with the same result.

Then my last result was to do a system restore to a previous day, and had to
do that 3 times before I got a good result, then I went back and did another
manual windows update again - that was at 4:30pm, it's now almost 9pm where I
am and it's still going. I don't know what else to do. If I stop it again, I
won't be able to do any updates again and if I let it go how many more hours
is that going to take!!!!

Hope to hear from someone about this soon
Thanks
Monique

Hello Monique,
Sounds like something is deliberately interfering with your update, perhaps
malware, perhaps not. Give this a try.

First remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com
Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.
Run the above remover in safe mode, then Ccleaner on all 3
settings(windows, apps & issues) and clear anything found reboot and see if it
still exists.

Then try Ewido for removal: On-line
http://www.ewido.net/en/

Ditto here:
http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

Come back here when is all done.
Don't try tu update again.

Hmmm.... it appears that
Signature Version: 1.14.1358.2

is todays version. I hope the subject is a typo...

Just thought I'd let you know that I did see your suggestions and did do the
first scan with ccleaner, the ewido one didn't want to work for me, but the
other one from the safetylive site did and is STILL running as I did the
full service scan and I have 3 drives, it is only 50% complete and it's been
running since you posted your suggestion, sure hope it will move along faster
for the next 50%.
I will let you know when all is complete - as it is right now this scan is
saying that they found 4 threats and 12 detected items - whatever that
means, so I will let you know later.

Also, before I saw your post, I had uninstalled Windows Defender, so I will
re-install once this scan is finally over and then you can let me know what
is the course of action I should take to make this work.

Thanks for your help
Monique

Hello again

I'm back - finally. And have run everything except for the Ewido site, it
wouldn't work for me for some reason, tried it with IE and with Firefox.

I have re-installed WD again, so now, let me know what I should do please
Thank you
Monique
