updates again MSAS upgrades definitions from 5697 to 5699...ad infinitum...

I know of another tester who made this same observation, so it isn't just
your machine.

Hmm - missed that ad infinitum.
Mine doesn't do that, and the other tester I'm aware of who say the issue
didn't say that about his situation--it's possible he didn't test further.
My suggestion is to delete the definition files involved:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892519
and re-try the update.

I don't think so--I tend to suspect transient issues on your machine--but
I'd be hard pressed to suggest what--something about temporary files?
Thanks--I guess I should add that to the mantra, but it is sort of
understood anyway--any troubleshooting process involving newsgroup
interaction usually involves a modicum of waiting anyway!
