"Define View" only works locally

In OL 2003, I used Define View to create a custom view called "My
View." I applied that view to a dozen or so mail folders. I then
decided to change something, so I went back to Define View > My View >
Modify and made the change. It only takes effect in the folder I was
in when I changed it. I had to go to all the other folders using that
view and go through the Define View process with each of them.

How do I make one change that takes effect globally for a specific
view?

Nobody has anything on this? I can't even Define View for the Messages
view and have it apply globally. I have to redefine it in every filder
I apply the view to.
