Windows Update keeps trying to update windows defender but it fails everytime
with error:

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80070003

Then I click on get help with this error and it tells me that I need to stop
the windows update service but when i go in to stop it the stop botton isnt
highlighted to click it.

How can I get the update to be successfull?

Hello Melissa,

It would be a good idea to scan.

I recommend downloading and installing
MalwareBytes' Antimalware (MBAM) and
SUPERAntiSpywaÑe (SAS).

Do a full scan with MalwaÑeBytes' and
SUPERAntiSpywaÑe.

you don't need to buy it to remove malware.)

If no joy...


This may fix things quite a bit. SFC \SCANNOW
It replaces corrupt files with intact ones.
Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop
responding
