Not sure by your post if this is XP or Vista. Besides the specific
edition of Windows installed, what Service Packs have been applied so far ?

Also, could you supply some information on what your firewall is, anti-virus,
other R-TP programs, e.g. Spybot Search & Destroy (reduced functionality
called "TeaTimer") Avira (From version 9) (Included in antivirus package),
Ad-Aware, etc?

Thanks for your response. I have windows XP professional 5.1. Firewall is
disabled, I can’t click on to enable it.

The system also shutdown while scanning in live onecare. I have downloaded
service pack 3. I have ad Aware not up to date.

Thanks for your help.

The issue with the firewall, and the shutdown, they point to compromised
system

I am hoping it is not indicative of some deeper issue, like a
virus/trojan/worm/whatever.

SUPERAntiSpyware just put up a Online Safe Scan at
<http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html>
if you cannot install and/or run the current SUPERAntiSpyware product due to
an infection.

After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in *Safe
Mode*.

Download SP3 but don't install until you are sure your system is clean

You should also ensure your computer has all the
security updates available at Microsoft Update.
