Hi folks, I've been using WD for a few months without any problems, but it
recently gave a caution that the definitions were out of date so I tried to
update via windows update. The update downloaded and installed, but WD still
says definitions are out of date. I tried to reinstall....no go. Tried to
uninstall via control panel....no go. Turned it "off" under options, now it
will not turn on. Is there a way to remove it from my system (XP Pro, SP2)?

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can’t get the cleanup prog to run. I
download it to “desktopâ€, but it doesn’t show up on the desktop. I think
Defender is now defending too much? I think I got trouble………….

I'm out of my league here, but go to Services (under Administrative Tools)
and highlight Windows Defender Service. "Stop" Windows Defender Service,
then right click the line with WD Service. Click properties. Select Disable
and apply. Maybe this will allow you to download the cleanup prog. If not,
how about doing a System Restore to the point before you did the re-install.
I have the feeling that WD will be out of synch after the System Restore, but
you may be able to download. Otherwise, I defer to Microsoft. Good luck.

Thank you Thank you engel you just made my day I did the Windows installer
clean up and only removed Windows defender and the windows live care center
and reinstalled windows defender and it finally updated. I have tried
everything from uninstalling to reinstalling repair nothing worked Thanks
again. But like you said beware of what you remove using windows installer
cleanup.

Hi maye,

Glad to help and thanx for updating the thread.

Thanks Engel & Cat,

I disabled WD in admin tools, then downloaded the cleanup tool on another
machine to a USB stick. It then loaded on this computer and I was able to
clean up and uninstall.

However............ WD still will not reinstall and run properly. Maybe
something to do with using the IE 7 Beta????? Maybe I should wait for another
later Beta version with fewer bugs? Seems funny because I've been using MS
AntiSpyWare on this machine for a year and upgraded to WD and used it for a
month or so with no problems. Seems like a good program, hope it gets sorted
out.

Thanks for your help,

John

Jesus Christ! I was just in here looking at this same problem for solutions,
and read one from Annonomus he said to copy this into the run box
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
then go back and open windows defender run the updates again (please wait
till it finishes) It worked for me.. I can here to tell him so and say yes
that the information has helped me?
but I can't find his reply, where he was helping another?
Gosh this is embarassing!! I hope this help s others as he helped me thank
him if you find him?

Hello Carviescrafts,

This is easy, go to Announcements, Open a new post, in the Subject box, type
PING> ANONYMOUS, and leave him a message.
