I tried to update Defender while I received the message that it was not
updated for a long time. On the suggestion of members of this group, I used
Installer Cleaner being careful to clean only the signatures of Defender. It
worked fine and I was able to update. Now, receving Microsoft Notifications,
I clicked on Office update. There was a window explaining that I was unable
to receive Office Update for 4 different reasons. I do not like it. Have you
a solution or do I have to remove Defender?

This the text:
Office Update is unable to check for updates
The Office update site is unable to check for updates on this computer. This
may be happening because of one of the following reasons:
-You do not have administrative priviledges for this computer.
-There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by Office Update
site failed to download. Go back to the Downloads home page and try running
detection again.
-Windows installer patch (.MSP files) from previous applied Office Updates
are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer.
MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation completes
because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If the files
are missing you will not be able to apply office updates. You may also be
unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem. Plese
contact Microsoft Support Services for assistance.
-You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from Windows
installer version 1.0 to Windows 1.1. For more information see the KB article
Windows installer may prompt for Install sources if unavailable

The reasons 1 and 2 do not apply. the reason 4 may be, but i have Installer
3.0 on the computer!
I caller Microsoft Product support. After a few hours, they took control
(with my agreement) of the computer. They deleted a few files and then,
reinstalled Office Small business 2003. Everything went fine for the updates.
two days later, without anyother spyware program, I installed Defender. To
install Defender updates, I had to do the cleaning of signatures and I think
that is what provoked the problem.

I know that is a Beta version, and I want to contribute by warning everyone
including Microsoft on the consequenses of the problems in updatind Defender
