Defender never works; always get 0x8007277b error

I consistently get this when I try to get new updates: "0x8007277b A system
call that should never fail has failed." Can anyone translate this into
English?

up malware that even Addaware and Spybot don't detect. Install it and

Remember that DEFENDER is beta software.....bound to be buggy

I cannot attest to the suitability of "Super Anti-Spyware", but at least one
SiteAdvisor reviewer claims that it exhibits virus-like tendencies (so does
Symantec, by the way). SpywareWarrior.com does not have it classified as a
rogue, however. Stick with more mainstream threat scanners to be safe.
