Defender keeps running and takes most cpu resources

Windows Defender starts a scan a various times throughout the day even though
I have it scheduled to start at a specific time. When this happens, it takes
up so much of my cpu resources that it almost locks up my computer. It takes
forever to open Defender up and stop the scan. Has anyone experienced this?
What causes Defender to start scanning at various times throughout the day
rather than at the scheduled time? It's so annoying that I'm about ready to
uninstall the entire program.

Hello Kenneth,

Try this, go to Add/Rem programas, highlight WD, on the left side, click
in support information, and click in repair, and follow the prºmpts.

Engel,
Thanks for your suggestion, but Defender keeps running. When I booted up the
computer and logged on, it was fine for 5-10 minutes and then just started
scanning by itself. The scheduled time wasn't for another hour. Any more
thoughts?

Kenneth

Engel,
I should also mention that I never had this problem with the Microsoft
Anti-Spyware,the edition before Defender came out. All was fine then.
