Hello

I have been attempting to install Windows defender on a windows 2000 machine
and encountered a range of problems. Firstly, when clicking on the
installation icon i was asked to download the latest windows update so i did
this, my next attempt asked me to download the gdi plus file which i did.
Next i was told i could not install as i had to download windows3.1
installation pack. Now when i try to install i am told "A required update to
windows update is avalialbe at the windows update site"

Why am i getting this? i have all the system requirements needed

Thanks you.

That particular update is WGA related (Windows Genuine Advantage).

What's required is that the machine be fully up to date with all critical
patches, as defined at Windows Update.

(but you'd be right in thinking that not all of them are genuinely
required--I've just not seen a list of what is and what is not--so that's
what I know to say--and I'd also agree that this isn't stated in the
download site or system requirements, so far)
