Defender Fails To Remove Problem

Somehow I got a virus on my computer, and I'm trying to get rid of it.
Windows Defender has done an excellent job of finding the thing, but it's
also done an excellent job of failing to remove it. All the other problems
it's found, it's taken care of except this one. Every time I try to remove
it, Defender starts to "take actions" and then gives me a message saying,
"Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x80501001. One or more actions could
not be completed successfully."

My time is wasted and nothing gets accomplished. The virus seems to be
called "Worm.Gedza" . Any info on why Defender keeps failing to remove this
and how I can remove it myself would be greatly appreciated. My computer is
not working well and too many ridiculous problems continue to happen because
of it.
