Defender blocked my opening email attachments.

I installed Defender and could not open or save any email attachments in
Outlook Express or in my Yahoo Internet email. I changed the security
settings in O.E. without any success.

I deleted Windows Defender and the problem was immediately fixed.

A big problem I would say.

I don't have this problem with my AOL email client or with hotmail or yahoo.
I wonder is some users have somehow "blocked" an "unkown" program related to
their email and did not check for details in Window Defender's History
component? If I unwittingly blocked everything that WinDefend alerted to
without knowing or investigating, I would have already blocked my AOL
connection. Not Defender's problem. Folks need to be aware of what programs
they are using after all! Are there any reports of actual errors in Defender
causing email problems? Or is it user error?

Since AntiSpyware Beta worked perfectly and Defender screwed up my opening
email attachments, I think it was something about Defender - and not blocked
programs.

As you can see from a later message from Joe Faulhaber [MSFT] in this group,
there is a checkpoint which is examining email attachments as they are
opened. This may result in a noticable delay, but shouldn't be a block. If
you want to experiment some more, "Internet Explorer downloads" is the name
of the agent involved, and it can be turned off under general settings.

It may be useful to microsoft to get further information about what the
circumstances are that make this agent a block--that's not intended.
