Defender 2 beta gives satisfactory scan results...

My computer at work occassionally gives ad pop up, but scanning with beta 1
found nothing. Just installed beta 2 today and it found CnsMin and remove
was successful. Good work...
 
Does anyone have any idea why my Defender will not do Updates? The error
message I get refers to the service not being able to be started.

Can you do Start -> Run -> Cmd.exe and run the following command "net start
windefend" and paste the output ?

It needs the service that underlies AutoUpdate started--background
intelligent transfer service, as I recall. Check that in Services.msc.

You must be a more patient person than I. <g>

That particular piece of malware is usually installed by ActiveX driveby
