Is there a way to change the file view in the "Insert Picture from File" dialog (picture viewer) from Thumbnails to List or Details and have it stay that way, at least until I'm through with the current presentation?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - If you are using Office 2003, you should install this
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

Are you using Office 2002? If so, this is not possible (it will always come
up in Thumbnail view. The workaround is to add your pictures to the Clip
Organizer and use "Insert Picture -> Clip Art:" instead of "Insert ->
Picture -> From file".

NOTE: We changed the behavior in Office 2003 so that the Insert Picture
from File dialog remembers the view settings from the previous time it was
used.

Thank you!

Microman, for previous versions, you can also use the PPTools Starter
Set Plus. It's twenty bucks and is better than dealing with the clip
gallery or organizer, as far as I'm concerned.

Ta. But in all fairness, the picture import tool remembers the last-used
file folder and extension but not the last-used explorer settings (ie,
Details, thumbnails, etc.)

Ah, geeze. I thought it took care of the thumbnails view. No?

Sorry for the misleading information, Microman. My bad.

Afaid not. There might be some OS-level thing or setting that tells Windows
to remember the last-used setup in the file-open common dialog. If so, my
little fella would inherit that behavior. If it actually works like this on
your end, yell. I'd like to see if we can figure out why ( and how to
bottle it )
