Please, how can I change the default user in W2K so that the profile I want
will always present itself after bootup?

TIA, pjl

More details required. Are you talking about autologon?

I don't think I'm talking about autologon. My laptop was setup by the
vendor with a "user" profile that I don't use. My profile has to be
accessed by logging off the user profile and logging on my profile whenever
I start W2K. It's one of those "PIA" things that I'd like to change.

It seems to me that the registry must select the profile that boots as a
default someplace, and that can be changed to select my profile.

Thx, pjl

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

DefaultUserName

change Value data to your user name.

Yes this does sound like autologon. You can run regedit.exe and navigate to;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
edit the Reg_Sz string values
"DefaultUserName"
and
"DefaultPassword"
to reflect the correct username and password. (note: the password for an
autologon account can not be blank)
