When I open a new textbox it automatically opens as a bullet. Then I unbullet it, but the second line indent remains. When I move the thingy on the ruler that should adjust the second line indent, the text seems immune to this adjustment in either directin. The second line of text stubbornly remains aligned with where it should have been if the bullet wasn't unclicked, it will neither increase or decrease despite my ardent urging. Help me not go postal.

Sounds like you want to change the default behavior of a new text box:

Does it help if you hold down the CTRL button on the keyboard while you drag
the indent carats on the ruler? (You will need to turn on the ruler to do
this -- it's under View/Rulers.)
