Default shut-down choices

When I hit Alt+F4 or click on Start/Turn Off Computer, the choices are Stand by, Turn off and
Restart, in that order, with Stand By being the default choice.

I've read in one NG or another that "Stand By" -- for reasons I cannot now remember -- is a good
thing to stay away from.

Is there a way to change the default choice to Turn Off? I'm not asking to delete Stand By, I
just want the cursor to point, by default, to "Turn Off." Is there a reg tweak (or anything else)
that will accomplish that?

Thanks for any information.

Hi Terry,

No, I don't believe there is a way to change the default. However, if it
functions for you, there is no reason you can't use standby either. The
problem is that it is not fully supported by all hardware. If yours supports
it, then there is no reason you can't or shouldn't use it. I've used it for
all my systems for many years.

Perhaps the newsgroup warning was to avoid hibernate? That one is
potentially dangerous if you plan on adding hardware or make any major
system changes. Recommended to power up, shut down normally. Then add
hardware and/or make your changes.
