My laptop's default screen resolution is lower than I want it to be. I know
how to change it, but I can't get it to stay permanently. Every time I
restart the computer, it goes back to the old resolution. Any ideas on how to
keep it at 1440 by 900 pixels?

Is 1440 x 900 your laptop screen's native resolution? If yes, then go to
the laptop mftr.'s website and download/install the latest video drivers
for your specific model laptop.

All LCD displays, including those that are built into laptops, have one
specific "native" resolution at which they are designed to optimally
operate, and a limited selection of other resolutions. You can't use
Vista's display settings to overcome hardware limitations. Purchase a
laptop that supports the display resolution(s) you want.
