first- i'm a novice at in-depth computer things...
My problem: once an image is scanned the default program
to save image is Corel; I want to change it to Word- for
the life of me I can not figure out how. For some reason-
Word is not in my drop down list of programs to change
default to. And, yes, I do have Word on my PC. Is
anyone out there that can walk me through changing the
default to Word??

thanks in advance,
christina

You cannot make Word as your default editing program because it is not a
photo or picture editing program.
If you want to place a picture in Word you have two ways of doing it.
1. Save your scanned file. Open Word and click on Insert on the top bar.
Click on Picture on the opening menu and then browse to find the folder
where your file is and double click on the file. It will open in Word.
Word does have limited image editing capabilities that you can use once the
image is on your page. If you want to move it anywhere you want on your page
with your mouse, right click on the picture, select format, select layout
and select any layout except In line with text.

2. Scan directly in Word. Open Word and click on Insert, Picture, and select
From scanner or camera.
You can now scan the picture directly into Word and edit it from there.
This will work fine, but when you save it, it will be saved as a Word
document. You can always open it and copy the image to your clipboard to use
again into another document but it is not as convenient as having a scanned
image saved separately as an image file (.jpg, .tif, .bmp etc file format).
Since scanning is time consuming, it is better to save each scan as a
separate file and then Insert in Word as needed.
3. The programs in your drop down list will only be the programs capable of
opening and displaying an image on your screen when you double click on the
file name and those capable of editing an image. Word is not such a program,
but you can insert an image in it and then do some limited (but still quite
good) editing of the image such as sizing, color etc.
